"It’s not who or what you know that counts today;
it’s who knows you and what they believe you can do for
them." –
E. Bogin, M.S., C.C.C. -
Visibility
and awareness are the basics to business networking, the
strategic positioning of yourself as a resource for people. Why?
To build the kind of fruitful relationships which provide
mutual opportunities for business and professional growth as
well as personal development.
Networking
is the business strategy that involves active communication and
active giving, followed by the eventual results of active
receiving. It
enables you to be professionally available to others while
enabling you to construct the kinds of business environments in
which you can entice others to be professionally available to
you.
An
important way to achieve this is to join one or more business
and / or professional organizations.
Which one should you choose?
Your decision will depend on your answers to these
questions.
Make
the time to meet and assess the organization before joining it,
and then give back to it. Remember:
what you get out of your membership will depend on what
you put into it. It
is your investment of precious time and money.
Visibility
and awareness will be yours when you put yourself into the right
place to be seen at the right time by the right people.
Assume a proactive attitude when in the networking mode
of business and professional development and then take proactive
steps to reap the benefits of strategic networking within the
business and / or professional communities.
