Working Women Network

President Barbara Litrell To Retire

After 28 years in the publishing world, the last five with Working Woman Network, President Barbara Litrell will retire at the end of September.

Litrell, 56, a Long Island resident, has been responsible for the revenue side of both magazines, as well as WWN’s offline business operations including the National Association of Female Executives (NAFE), the conference division and the Business Women’s Network.  Litrell joined Working Mother magazine as Publisher in December 1995.  In August 1996, she was elected Vice President of parent company MacDonald Communications, and named Group Publisher of Working Woman and Working Mother. Last year, she was promoted to President, Working Woman Network, given the added responsibility for all business operations of the growing franchise.

Working Woman Network Chairman Jay MacDonald said, “I’m very happy for Barbara, knowing that she wants to play more golf and explore other areas of interest at this point in her life.  It certainly is a loss for the company to not have her inspiring leadership and business acumen on a regular basis.  She successfully executed an impressive turnaround of both magazines, and then took the lead in coordinating our many revenue streams under one umbrella.”  MacDonald did say the door is always open for Litrell to continue her relationship with WWN in an advisory or consulting capacity.

After making the announcement to her staff this week, Litrell said she was looking forward to taking some time for herself and then launching an entrepreneurial venture.  “That’s what Working Woman’s philosophy is all about, women making choices and Working Woman Network providing the tools for success,” said Litrell.  “After working with and lecturing about entrepreneurial women, I’ve been inspired to explore new opportunities.”

Barbara shared part of her five-year plan which is to play the Top 100 golf courses in the world!

LIWomen.com wishes our friend to all women, Barbara Litrell, success and joy in pursuit of her passions.
