Women On The Job, a private, not-for-profit employment rights education and advocacy project of Resources for Program Development Inc., has been the leading agency in the fight for women’s rights in the workplace on Long Island since 1981.  Our objective is to address systemic patterns and practices of sex discrimination, especially concerning fair pay, equal opportunity, sexual harassment, women on corporate boards, pregnancy discrimination and women in non-traditional occupations.  We work toward these objectives for social change through the Women On The Job Task Force, a coalition of over 60 organizations on Long Island representing over 10,000 women and men.

The Women On The Job Task Force, formed in 1982, is the catalyst for coalescing business, professional, labor, civic, religious and human rights groups to advance equal employment opportunity in the Long Island workplace.  It is the only group with this focus working exclusively at the local grassroots level in New York State.

The Task Force is dedicated to promoting equitable employment practices and opportunities for women in Long Island through advocacy and education.  To support this purpose, the Task Force:

  • Provides a forum for women to unite and network with colleagues on employment issues

  • Identifies barriers preventing women’s full participation in the economy

  • Monitors enforcement of human rights law

  • Educates members and the community on employer/employee rights and women’s employment issues

  • Advocates for EEO policies and practices and legislation to protect working families

Where Are The Women?

The objective of this project is to create a gender balance in corporate decision-making that reflects consumer lifestyles and trends in today’s marketplace.  This project will increase the presence of women on the boards of Long Island corporations through executive outreach, networking opportunities and a seminar series all guided by advisors from the business community.
