The National Association of Mothers' Centers addresses the
needs of mothers in our society. The NAMC achieves this
by:
-
reinforcing the value of mothers
-
nurturing local Mothers' Centers
-
developing innovative programs
-
advancing maternal health and well being
-
advocating mothers' rights
-
gathering and exchanging maternal wisdom
Mothers’ Center
(MC) programs take various forms. They are: freestanding
local programs, begun and run by neighborhood women
throughout Nassau & Suffolk, as well as nationwide; New
Neighborhood™ work site groups; groups for women in
transitional and low income housing; a program for parenting
teens; and life-changing programs for pre-teens and their
moms. Our program addresses the isolation & stress of
parenting; it provides an open forum for learning about
child development and parenting; it creates an environment
of inquiry and research regarding the needs and experiences
of women; it validates and builds on participants’ skills &
talents. The NAMC will offer it's 7th Annual Work
& Family Conference in Nov. 2002 to highlight the issues and
concerns of working parents as they struggle to balance
their home and career responsibilities. MC programming
creates a community of support, both emotional and physical,
for mothers and families. It nurtures the nurturer through
the postpartum and post-adoption period, as well as her
subsequent growth as she rises to the challenges that
motherhood adds to her life.
