FEATURING: Noreen Carro of LMN Printing

Our Long Island businesswoman who makes a difference this month is Noreen Carro of LMN Printing in Valley Steam. Noreen, along with her sisters, is a partner in this successful second-generation business. The business was started in 1971 by her father and mother who were from Puerto Rico and wanted a better life for their family. The company originally started printing raffle books which were sold nationally and expanded to other media. LMN Printing developed major clients such as LIPA, Citibank and the New York Power Authority, as well as a strong focus on the not-for-profit sector. LMN Printing is now a women-owned minority business enterprise (WMBE). Noreen operates the New York office and hers sisters, Nora Aly and Nanette Amalfitano operate the Florida office with combined annual sales exceeding $2 million.

Noreen, do you live by a basic philosophy?

What goes around comes around. If you do a lot for others it will come back to you.

Are there people that were catalysts in your life?

My father mentored me. He taught me how to run a business. My oldest sister, Nancy inspired me to go further. My mom taught me the ethical world. She inspired me to value life. My two sisters, Nanette and Nora fostered the bond of teamwork and unity. Dan Lehner, the former president of In-Flight Newsletter was a role model regarding philanthropy and Dorothy Potter got me involved in networking. She pushed me, taught me and challenged me to go beyond my own expectations.

Do you volunteer your time to worthy causes?

I completed the three-day, 60-mile breast cancer walk from Bear Mountain to Morningside Drive in Harlem. I have been on the Board of the Fund for Women and Girls, EAC, Promote Long Island and Executive Women’s Golf. I am past president of the Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and American Business Women’s Association. I am a current member of the Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce. Through these organizations, I was able to be a part of networking, fund raising and charity work.

What do you do for fun?

I like to roller blade, read, walk, bike and play softball.

Do you have advice for our women readers?

Don’t forget who you are. We need each other. Sometimes you have to sit back and smell the roses. Balance work with family and friends. If I could change anything, it would be to spend more time with family. Also, when you network…follow-up. That seems to be a weak area for women. We truly need to support each others businesses. Get involved! I did the March on Washington for Equal Rights for Women. It helped me become aware of the issues facing women.
