Editors Note: The
following email was received Friday, June 22, 2001 after the
tragic event in Houston.
I
am writing to everyone in my address book this a.m. to say thank
you for your support in increasing awareness and education of
maternal mental illness. It
is very unfortunate for a beyond belief tragedy to occur for
people to realize the problems we have in regards to providing
information, treatment and support to postpartum women.
Please
forward this email to anyone that is in need of postpartum
depression resource information.
It
is important for women who may be experiencing postpartum
depression at this time to know they are not alone, not to blame
and they will feel better and get well.
It is important for pregnant women to be educated and to
know if they are at high risk.
They need to put in place a postpartum plan.
It is important for families to be supportive,
understanding and educated.
Thank you.
