Gay Issues In Mainstream Psychology To Be Discussed At Dowling College

OAKDALE, NY * Dr. Marvin Goldfried, Professor, Psychotherapy Integration; Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual Issues at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, will present a talk entitled, "What Mainstream Psychology Needs to Know About Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Issues," on Wednesday, February 18 at 5:45 p.m. in the Fortunoff Hall Hunt Room on Dowling College's Rudolph Campus in Oakdale. The event is free and open to the public.

Dr. Goldfried received his Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1961. His past work has been on the investigation of the process of change in psychotherapy, comparing different theoretical orientations for both common and unique processes.

Currently, he is involved in clinical and research issues associated with gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals. He has developed AFFIRM: Psychologists Affirming their Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Family, and is cofounder of the Society for the Exploration of Psychotherapy Integration, and past president of the Society for Psychotherapy Research.

Among his numerous awards is the American Psychological Association (APA) Division of Clinical Psychology's 1998 award for Distinguished Research Contributions to Clinical Psychology, the Division of Psychotherapy's Award for Distinguished Psychologist in the year 2000, the 2001 APA Award for Distinguished Contributions to Knowledge, the 2002 Division 1 Staats Award for Contributions Toward Unifying Psychology, and the 2003 Association for the Advancement of Behavior Therapy Award for Outstanding Clinical Contributions. He is founding Editor of In Session: Psychotherapy.
