Adelphi University School of Social Work

Volunteers Sought for Breast Cancer Hotline

Women and men who are breast cancer survivors, and family members and friends of survivors who are concerned about breast cancer, can become volunteers at the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline and Support Program in Garden City, Long Island.

Volunteers can help by doing outreach to the community, office work, fund raising and publicity, as well as answering hotline calls.  Hotline volunteers provide emotional support, information and referral services to callers with breast cancer concerns.

The next five-session training cycle will be held on a five Tuesdays, beginning May 22.  The sessions run from 10 am to 1 pm at the Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City.

Although the program is housed on Long Island, hotline services and telephone counseling are available to callers throughout New York State.

For information about the training and to schedule an appointment for an interview, call Laura Greenblatt, ACSW, at 516-877-4335.  To reach the hotline, call 800-877-8077.  Both breast cancer survivors and people who are not themselves survivors are welcome as program volunteers.

The breast cancer program has been in existence for over 20 years.  It is a project of the Adelphi University School of Social Work on Long Island and is funded by the New York State Legislature and Department of Health, grants and contributions.  The website is www.adelphi.edu/nysbreastcancer

Help is just a phone call away.
