The
Long Island Chapter of the Executive Women’s Golf
Association (EWGA), which began with a kickoff meeting on
April 5, 2000, ended the golf season over with 230
members, the largest new member group in the history of
the EWGA.
In
recognition for this achievement, the Northeast Region of
EWGA presented the Long Island Chapter with a special
award, the “Award for Outstanding Chapter Management”.
Chapter
President Christine McInerney, an attorney with Ruskin,
Moscou, Evans & Faltischek, P.C., noted that the
successful inaugural year of the Long Island chapter was
due to the tremendous interest in networking through golf.
“We recognized that women business leaders could network
around the game of golf, whether they were experienced
players, or were holding a golf club for the first time.
The Chapter made the game of golf attractive and available
to women players at all levels.”
In
their first year, the Chapter hosted 3 major golf
tournaments, sponsored several golf clinics, and started a
women’s league, which met every week at the Town of
Oyster Bay Golf Course.
The Chapter plans to schedule a few networking
events over the winter months as well.
The
officers of the Long Island Chapter, in addition to
President McInerney, are: Vice President and League Chair
Patrice Franco of Merrill Lynch & Co., Secretary
Kathleen O'Brien of U.S. Trust, and Treasurer Martha Stark
of BDO Seidman. Board members include Membership Chair
Hilary Hartung of Education and Assistance Corp., Golf
Events Chair Beth Sachs of The American Cancer Society,
Social Events Chair Joan A. Huff of European American
Bank, Education Chair Linda B. Selden of LBS Business
Services, Sponsorship Chair June Carter of Business
