SMITHTOWN, NY - The Long Island Chapter
of Webgrrls International will be presenting, Where are all the HOT
high-tech jobs? second in a series of panel discussions addressing the
issues and trends affecting the high-technology and New Media industries
on Long Island at the Hilton Huntington on Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at 6:30
pm.
Women in todays New Media industries, or
those transitioning into it, want o know what sort of job opportunities
are available to them on Long Island, says Claudine Jalajas, chapter
leader of Long Island Webgrrls. It is also important for them to
understand what skills employers are looking for and where they can get
the necessary training.
This dynamic panel of speakers will
include: Scott Passeser, host of Jobline on News12 and president of
LIJobs.com; Joseph Nakelski, president and CEO of Joseph and Associates;
and Amy Burns of New Horizons Computer Training Centers of Long Island.
Scott Passeser is the host of News 12
Long Island's popular business television show, Jobline. He is the
President of LIjobs.com, Long Island's premier online staffing resource.
Scott is also an author, teacher, career management expert, business
consultant and passionate supporter of both school business partnerships
and the issues facing women in the workplace.
Scott will provide an insight into the
current and projected trends in the new media and high-technology
industries on Long Island. What are the opportunities for employment?
Joseph Nakelski, is president and CEO of
Joseph and Associates a New York based information technology executive
search firm founded in 1986. Their recruitment expertise covers the
areas of SAS, Database Marketing, Market Research, E-commerce, Direct
Marketing, Statisticians, Clinical Trials, Oracle, Visual Basic, New
Media, I.T. Management, Web Architect, Wireless, and New Business
Development.
Prior to entering the field of executive
placement, Joseph Nakelski was director of various non-profit childcare
programs within New York and Vermont. Joseph will discuss the current
hiring trends of employers, skills and experience employers are looking
for, future employment needs and projections and the do's and don'ts of
working with a recruitment firm.
Amy Burns of New Horizons Computer
Training Centers of Long Island will discuss the various training and
education resources available on Long Island. She will provide an
insight into the various options for people entering the high-tech
field, considering a career change or looking for continuing education
in their respective fields.
Registration starts at 6:30 pm. For this
meeting, there is a $10 charge at the door, for members and $15 for

The panel discussion begins promptly at
7:00 pm followed by a Q and A session. There will be opportunities to
network with our speakers at 9:00 pm. The Long Island chapter of
Webgrrls provides a forum for women to teach and learn new Internet
skills through its computer training program at New Horizons; exchange
job and business leads and provide mentoring through internships.
Discussions surround ongoing Internet development including Web site
development through technology seminars, monthly meetings and an online
discussion list.
