COMMEMORATION DAY 2001
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. All across
the state, as well as nationally, there will be special
events hosted by many organizations to raise awareness and
call attention to the devastating issue of domestic
violence and its impact on society.
Commemoration Day is Thursday, October 4, 2001
from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. This will be a candlelight
vigil with poetry to honor the survivors, remember the
victims, pay tribute to all those whose lives have been
touched by the horrors of domestic violence and thank
those who have helped victims to safety. Please join us
at the “Memorial Tree” on the lawn next to the Suffolk
County Legislative Building, on the corner of Old Willets
Path and Veterans Memorial Highway, in Hauppauge (Rain or
shine). Listen to some of the survivors and their
personal stories of courage. Sponsored by the Suffolk
County Coalition Against Domestic Violence, Victims
Information Bureau of Suffolk, The Retreat and Brighter
Tomorrows. Contact (631) 666-7181 for more information.
