GREAT NECK, NY (September 28, 2001) -- The National Association of Women Business Owners Long Island Chapter (NAWBO/LI) will honor local business women, supporters of women-owned firms and for the first time will present a $5,000 grant to a woman-owned firm at its 9TH Annual NAWBO Gala on Wednesday, November 28, 2001. The event will be held at the Crest Hollow Country Club, Jericho Turnpike in Woodbury, New York.

According to NAWBO President, Thea Linker, Michele Cooper of the Multimold Corporation in Deer Park, will receive the NAWBO award for Outstanding Woman Business Owner. "This Award is presented to women who own and operate businesses with gross sales or revenues in excess of $5 million," Linker said.

Sharon Newman, President of Action Envelope in Farmingdale, was selected as the Presidents' Award recipient. Newman has been an active member of NAWBO since joining and has served on the board in various positions including Public Affairs and Secretary and is currently President-Elect.

The Long Island Development Corporation, of Plainview, was selected to receive the Corporation of the Year Award for its continued support of women-owned businesses, providing both money and technical assistance to enhance the growth of women-owned and other small businesses.

Fleet Bank of Melville was selected to receive NAWBO's first Financial Institution award for its initiatives focused on women business owners and their financial support of NAWBO Long Island. Fleet Bank created the Women Entrepreneurs' Connection to provide programs and support of women business owners.

NAWBO's education committee will also present a $5,000 grant to a woman-owned company in business between five and seven years.

"NAWBO award winners are leaders in their field of business, in their communities, and exhibit the qualities of success that make them outstanding role models for other women business owners," Linker said.

"The NAWBO Gala is an opportunity for all members of the Long Island business community, both women and men, to show support and appreciation of women who by their own success have made significant contributions to all women business owners," said Gala Chairperson Sharon Campbell. "We welcome sponsors for the event."
