SUFFOLK COUNTY WOMEN’S BUSINESS ENTERPRISE COALITION (SCWBEC) TO HOLD 4TH ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP TEA OCT 23

SCWBEC seeks to enroll every woman-owned firm in the county and connect firms with government and corporate procurement opportunities

HAUPPAUGE, NY (October 4, 2001) – The Suffolk County Women’s Business Enterprise Coalition (SCWBEC) will hold its 4th Annual Tea and Membership Drive Reception from 4 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, October 23, 2001 at the Three Village Inn in Stony Brook, N.Y.

“SCWBEC membership currently stands at 550 women-owned businesses in Suffolk County and our mission is to enroll every woman-owned firm registered in the county. Since membership is free and our role is to connect women with government and corporate procurement opportunities, this networking reception is a great opportunity to join the coalition, as well as meet new people, share experiences and gain knowledge,” Mary Scott, SCWBEC Chairwoman said. “We are encouraging our existing members to also bring potential new member.”

All proceeds from the event will help benefit the SCWBEC Research and Education Fund. The fund provides grants and other research services to help women-owned firms succeed. The reception is sponsored in part by Health Plan of New York (HIP).  Created in 1990, the mission of the Suffolk County Women’s Business Enterprise Coalition is to promote women-owned businesses and provide those companies with access to government and corporate procurement opportunities and education. SCWBEC provides women with training and knowledge to compete for government and corporate contracts, and serves as a mentor for new business owners. Sponsored by Suffolk County and under the leadership of County Executive Robert Gaffney’s Office of Minority Affairs, SCWBEC serves all women business owners who either reside or maintain their business within Suffolk County. There are no dues or membership fees and the group meets monthly in the media room of the H. Lee Dennison Building in Hauppauge.

The event runs from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and the fee is $20.00 per person. For more information about SCWBEC or to reserve a ticket, please call the SCWBEC office (631) 853-4738 or visit www.scwbec.org.

For additional information about the coalition, please write Suffolk County Women’s Business Enterprise Coalition, H. Lee Dennison Building, Human Services Division, Hauppauge, NY  11787.
