to Keynote NAWBO
Atlantic Regional Meeting
150 Women Business Owners from
New Jersey to Virginia Expected to Attend
Actress, model, entrepreneur Daphne Maxwell Reid will
preside as keynote speaker for The National Association of
Women Business Owners (NAWBO) Atlantic Regional Meeting to
be held for the first time in the Hampton Roads Area.
Reid will speak Friday night, November 2 at 7 PM. The
conference will be held at The Virginia Beach Resort and
Conference on Shore Drive at North Great Neck Road.
With her husband, Tim Reid, and two other Virginia
businessmen, Daphne co-founded New Millennium Studios, the
first full-service film studio in Virginia. Daphne
Maxwell Reid is a lady who combines high fashion,
sophistication and talent with warm personality, a great
sense of humor and a keen business sense.
Women Business Owners Profit from Balancing Business
and Life
The theme of the conference is “Women Business Owners:
Profiting from Balance in Their Businesses and Lives.”
Workshops begin on Friday, November 2, 2001, and run
through Saturday, November 3, 2001.
Registration will begin at 1 PM on Friday, November 2 with
the first three workshops beginning at 2 PM. Renee
DiMichiel-Farrow from Pittsburg will speak on the myriad
of roles women strive to fill. She will show how to reach
beyond limitations and mast the next levels of
achievement. Alice Gentry Lingerfelt from Richmond will
lead participants in her workshop to plan their own
life-balance and develop an understanding of the
profitable rewards as a result of that balance. Irene H
Hannan, Director of Women’s Business Advisory Services for
First Union, will present the third selection for the 2 PM
workshop. Hannan will speak on women and money and what
smart women need to know in order to make informed
business decisions.
The second set of workshops begins at 3:30 PM, Friday.
Rosemary Bova from New York City will speak on
understanding your leadership style and how women business
owners can become more effective leaders and better
communicators if they develop and awareness of their
unique behavioral style. Also at 3:30, Cecilia Chavez-Protas
will speak on how to profit from diversity balance in
business and understand the dynamics of difference as it
relates to business success. The third option is
presented by Jane Pollak of Connecticut who will give
home-based business owners five practical and essential
strategies for success.
Daphne Maxwell Reid Keynotes Friday’s Dinner Meeting
Networking will be encouraged from 4:45 to 6 PM. At 6
PM a reception will be held followed by dinner at 7:30.
The keynote speaker is Daphne Maxwell Reid. Reid has
starred in The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Frank’s Place,
Snoops, and Linc’s. Her credits also include Simon
& Simon, Hardcastle and McCormick, WKRP in Cincinnati,
Cagney and Lacey, Hill Street Blues, and Murder, She Wrote.
A multi-talented woman, Reid designs and makes most of her
own wardrobe. While pursuing a major in Interior Design
and Architecture at Northwestern University, she appeared
as a model in many fashion magazines and was the first
Black woman to grace the cover of Glamour.
She co-ventured with McCall Pattern Company to create and
produce a four-video pattern kit called “Suddenly You’re
Sewing.” Maxwell Reid also designs a bi-annual line of
patterns called the Daphne Maxwell Reid Collection for The
McCall Pattern Company.
Following Maxwell-Reid’s presentation, the hospitality
suite will open giving participants and chance to meet all
the speakers informally and network with each other.
Comedian Silver Rose Starts Saturday Morning with Pith
and Humor
Saturday morning will begin with breakfast keynote
speaker, Silver Rose. The former stand-up comedian will
provide a laugh-filled journey from self-recognition, as
we explore the endless variety of ways we sabotage our
“balance”, to some pretty effortless solutions for getting
back on track. Her simple message: “Want to change your
life? Change your focus!” She is a member of the
National Speakers Association and NAWBO, Phoenix Chapter.
More workshops are offered Saturday morning focusing on
Chapter development with speakers on Corporate and
Economic Development, Public Policy, Media Training and
Membership. Following lunch, Leadership Development
workshops will begin at 1:30 PM. Topics will include
Managing Your Board, Treasurers Training and Programs and
Events Exchange and Diversity Promotion.
The Conference is open to members and non-members alike.
Cost for the entire conference is $125 ($150 after October
10); for Friday or Saturday only, $85 ($100 after October
10). Dinner is included with the Friday registration fee
and breakfast and lunch are included with Saturday’s fee.
