THIRD ANNUAL “PREVENTION IS THE CURE™” WALK

Sunday, October 12, 2003, 9 am, Rain or Shine
(Starts and Ends at the American Legion Hall)
Huntington Village, Long Island, New York

Huntington Breast Cancer Action Coalition (HBCAC) hosts the annual Walk for Prevention with support from Students Putting an End to Cancer (SPEC), other community advocates and environmental groups. Please join HBCAC and many friends to show commitment to “PREVENTION IS THE CURE” (PITC) campaign.

The PITC campaign is an ongoing effort dedicated to reinforcing the importance of risk reduction to the public, as well as encourages our elected officials to incorporate the precautionary principle into public policy. The Precautionary Principle must become the cornerstone of environmental policy decisions. Added to this, is the need for increased funding of environmental health research. On a personal level, individuals can significantly reduce their risks by adopting a healthier lifestyle.

Karen Joy Miller, Founder of HBCAC and Prevention Is The Cure, states “despite all the awareness and communication we’ve created over the past two decades, the incidences of cancer continues to increase with no cure in sight. Preventing the start of a debilitating disease, can in fact be its ultimate cure.”

This year, the student-run organization Students Putting an End to Cancer (SPEC), will partner and rally to create awareness and lend support against cancer! With chapters at Stony Brook University, Bethpage High School and Great Neck High School, these students seek to help people learn about disease prevention.

PRE-REGISTRATION IS $15.00 BEFORE THE WALK AND REGISTRATION IS $20.00 THE DAY OF THE WALK. THIS YEAR WE’RE ASKING PARTICIPANTS TO GATHER SUPPORT FROM THEIR NEIGHBORS WITH A MINIMUM OF $50 IN SPONSORSHIPS. CALL HUNTINGTON BREAST CANCER ACTION COALITION AT (631) 547-1518 FOR MORE INFORMATION.

Visit www.preventionisthecure.org or www.hbcac.org for registration information and to download a brochure for Sunday, October 12th Walk for Prevention.
