Bethpage, N.Y. - The Long Island
Coalition for Fair Broadcasting’s FOLIO Awards, honoring
excellence in local news coverage, will feature a keynote
address by CBS News’ Dan Rather.
“In addition to being one of the best-known names
in the news business, Dan Rather brings with him the unique
perspective of someone who has witnessed current events chart
the course of history for the past 40 years,” said Jaci
Clement, executive director of the Long Island Coalition for
Fair Broadcasting. “This is an exclusive opportunity
for our community, and it is a privilege to bring him to Long
Island.”
For more than two decades, the Coalition has honored media
with FOLIO Awards as a way to encourage quality news reporting
of local issues. Previous FOLIO Award keynoters include Al
Roker, Tom Brokaw, Sam Donaldson, Tim Russert, Peter Jennings,
Charles Osgood and Liz Claman. Rather currently serves as
anchor and managing editor of the ‘CBS Evening News’
and as a correspondent for ‘60 Minutes II.’
The Coalition’s annual FOLIO Awards Luncheon, which
also features New York area television anchors as award presenters,
will be held on April 23 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Crest
Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, Long Island. More than 800
business, community and media leaders are expected to attend.
