WOMEN
ON THE JOB is a private, not-for-profit employment rights
education and advocacy project of Resources for Program Development,
Inc. Our objective is to correct systemic patterns and practices
of sex discrimination, especially as they affect Long Island’s
working women and concern fair pay, equal opportunity for
employment and sexual harassment. We work towards these objectives
for social change through a volunteer Board of Directors and
through the WOMEN ON THE JOB TASK FORCE, a diverse coalition
of over 60 organizations on Long Island representing over
10,000 women and men.
The
WOMEN ON THE JOB TASK FORCE was formed in 1982, by Lillian
McCormick, who founded Women on the Job, and continues as
its Executive Director, and Charlotte Shapiro, a former Long
Island schoolteacher. The Task Force is the catalyst for bringing
together business, professional, labor, civic, religious,
social services and human rights groups as educators and advocates
to advance equal employment opportunity in the Long Island
workplace. It is unique in New York State as a group with
this focus working exclusively at the local grassroots level.
The
TASK FORCE is dedicated to promoting equitable employment
practices and opportunities for women in the Long Island workplace.
It also advocates for inclusion of women in corporate decision-making
roles. In order to further its purposes, the TASK FORCE
